CBR & Plate Load Tests
The Californian Bearing Ratio (CBR) is a well-established scale for assessing the relative state of compaction of different road bases. There are a number of different tests that can assess the CBR value of different materials.
The principal tests we offer are:
The truck mounted apparatus is considered the most reliable method, but is more expensive and usually charged on a day-rate. A DCP is indicative and only reliable in finer grained soils, but has the benefit of providing a results profile with depth to 950mm and is more cost effective. A laboratory CBR test can be charged per sample, and can be done at different moisture contents, but it is ex-situ and the sample is recompacted in the lab which may differ from the field conditions.
